I am walking around,
In circles.
I thought I have walked long and far,
Only to find myself back in that same spot.
As if I have never walked at all.

Trapped
A room engulfed in darkness.
The lights all snuffed out.
The stench of fear and frustration still lingers.
A never-ending labyrinth.
Its dead ends threatening One's sanity.
The stench of inadequacies and insecurity still lingers.
A lonely street amidst the thick fog.
The blinding grey swirls chokes One's senses.
The stench of helplessness and hysterics still lingers.
How could One ever find the way out?
The lights all snuffed out.
The stench of fear and frustration still lingers.
A never-ending labyrinth.
Its dead ends threatening One's sanity.
The stench of inadequacies and insecurity still lingers.
A lonely street amidst the thick fog.

Assault without blood shed.
The worst form of pain you can inflict on somebody,
Is not through the use of sharp blades,
Nor through the use of metallic bullets.
But through harsh words and thoughtless acts,
One can snuff the flames of love, hope and respect for another.
One can throw another into the deepest pits of Hell.
Nevertheless, bearing in mind that
Retaliation comes not in the form of sharp blades nor metallic bullets,
But in a promise that - Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Dear Diary,
Fate does like to teach me a lesson now and then.
Today, I have learnt that family is no longer what I have thought it to be.
Parents are no longer a child's pillars of pride and support.
Siblings are no longer trusted confidantes.
The word 'Family' has lost its special place in my heart.
The ideals have been shattered.
I am now horribly disillusioned.
Today, I have lost a Mother.
Someone whom I have always looked upon with much respect and love.
A lady who, in my universe, is unparalleled.
Today, I have lost a Sister.
Someone whom I have always doted on, despite the harsh words.
A baby who has constantly been sheltered from the brutalities of the world outside.
Today, I shall walk the world on my own.
I shall rely on my strength and my strength alone.
Though I may have lost two of the most important people in my life,
Today, and henceforth, I will show them how well I can survive.
Yours bitterly,
Wi|dChi|d

Modern Slavery
The slaves of old were bound,
By cold metal chains on their hands
And the heavy ball of iron at their feet.
The slaves of today were bound,
By a few pieces of paper
On which endless terms and conditions were written.
The slaves of old were to be seen but not to be heard.
They dare not complain,
For fear of being whipped or badly hurt.
The slaves of today do not fare any better.
They could not act nor speak freely,
For fear of breaking their rice bowl or being jailed.
The slaves of old had Abraham Lincoln, William Wilberforce
And several others who worked tirelessly to free them.
Yet, who is there,
To stand up for the slaves of today?
By cold metal chains on their hands
And the heavy ball of iron at their feet.
The slaves of today were bound,
By a few pieces of paper
On which endless terms and conditions were written.
The slaves of old were to be seen but not to be heard.

The Best of Both Worlds
Is it a matter of greed?
Or naivety?
Is it being too ambitious?
Or idealistic?
Is it the perfectionist in some of us?
Or the refusal to admit defeat?
To want to have your cake and eat it.
Or naivety?
Is it being too ambitious?
Or idealistic?
Is it the perfectionist in some of us?
Or the refusal to admit defeat?
To want to have your cake and eat it.

Unappreciated
The sweat,
And tears.
The anxiety,
And fears.
Missed meals,
Sacrificed sleep.
Endless encouragement,
Advice not heed.
Thoughtless acts and careless words have reduced them to naught.
Like the waning full moon, so is my patience.
And tears.
The anxiety,
And fears.
Missed meals,
Sacrificed sleep.
Endless encouragement,
Advice not heed.
Thoughtless acts and careless words have reduced them to naught.
Like the waning full moon, so is my patience.

Lies We Tell Kids
"No bullying!"
Yet, those in authority abuse their power.
"Don't be rude!"
Yet, we use words unkindly.
The very things we teach our children NOT to do,
And yet we do it to others.
Hypocrites we all are,
Some more so than others.
Yet, those in authority abuse their power.

Why?!
A little round green bean buried itself snugly within the fresh soil.
The Sun saw and surrounded it with her warm golden rays.
As the days went by, the Sun nourished it with love and care.
And soon, a little green head peeped shyly from under the warm blanket of earth .
The Sun then decided to share the fruit of her labour with her friends - Wind, Clouds and Rain.
Together, they swore to keep the seedling healthy and strong,
And took turns to do just that.
One day, the Rain noticed there was a black spot on the stem of the young plant.
Fearing the worst, he alerted the Sun immediately.
The Sun took a look at it and dismissed the matter with a smile,
Saying that it was nothing serious.
Weeks passed but the black spot did not disappear.
Instead, it seemed to have weakened the stem.
Worried that the seedling may not have the chance to grow into a strong and healthy tree, and that such news may devastate Sun,
Rain, Wind and Clouds decided to get rid of the seedling.
Rain poured heavily on the leaves and flooded the roots.
Wind blew strongly at the stem, bending it backwards.
Clouds kept the warm golden rays of the Sun away from the young plant.
Yet, the seedling kept its head up high, refusing to cave in.
When the Sun discovered what her friends tried to do,
How ever Rain, Wind and Clouds try to explain,
The Sun still felt disappointed and betrayed.
She reminded them that they had once sworn to protect and care for the young plant, making sure it grows into the strongest and healthiest tree in the garden.

Power is Poison
To bestow power upon one,
Is akin to ingesting poison.
It makes one blind,
Not only to the mistakes made.
Nor to the unhappiness wrought.
But also to one's own fault.
It makes one deaf,
Not only to worthy advice.
Nor to the cries of those wronged.
But also to the unrivalled truth.
It makes one careless,
And fallible,
Contradicting,
And gullible.
Power is Poison.

It makes one blind,
Not only to the mistakes made.

Break of Dawn
The incessant rain brought much discomfort.
Whenever the distant rumble of storm was heard, the villagers ran for shelter.
Shortly after, the skies would be a thick blanket of angry dark clouds strewn with slivers of lightning.
The villagers had no idea what had angered the gods.
Hence, all they could do was to pray and make peace offerings.
Fortunately, their prayers were answered.
The first rays broke through the dark clouds and lit up the cold wet grounds.
The villagers peeped apprehensively from their windows.
They rejoiced when the balls of grey cotton finally retreated beneath the horizon and were replaced by the warmth of golden rays.
But how long would this last?

Losing Senses
Silenced by Expectations.
Blinded by Rage.
Deaf to Advice.
Numbed from Pain.
Taste of Bitterness.
Smells like Teen Spirit.
Blinded by Rage.
Deaf to Advice.
Numbed from Pain.
Taste of Bitterness.
Smells like Teen Spirit.
Life is...
Unfair.
Tasked to carry out duties of a grown man.
I am but a mere woman who is forced to grow balls of steel.
Contradictory.
You give me tons of excuses why you cannot.
Yet time and again, your actions prove to me you can.
Unappreciated.
My hard work is always not acknowledged.
People in authority expects me to work a miracle.
Taken for granted.
Nobody cares about how I would feel.
Everybody just assumes I am okay with their decisions.
Tough.
Especially when I am an Asian kid growing up with Asian parents.
When doing what I believe in and being different are seen as acts of rebellion.
If you are not going to open your heart to listen,
And choose to ignore my cries for attention,
Then I will hurt you with my actions.
I am a boiling cauldron of negative emotions,
Threatening to spill over
And burn everything in my path.

Murder's on the Menu
A Man and his Lady
Both dressed to the nines,
Walked hand in hand
Into a restaurant to dine.
Having showed them their table,
Then placing the menu in plain sight,
The Waiter took a step back
And waited for the couple to decide.
"What shall we have?
What would you like?
What do you think
We should choose from the menu tonight?"
"How about bitter Caustic Remarks for starters
Tossed with some Acerbity?
And a bottle of dry Deceit
Would wash them down nicely."
"Later for the mains we'll have
A medium-rare Sabotage in caramel sauce,
With dozens of roasted Plagarism
And grilled Manipulation to finish off."
"For dessert, a generous slice of Backstabbing
Drowned in thick creamy Bootlicking,
Topped off with a sprinkle of Perverse Nature
Is a must, to end our night perfectly."
Having jotted down the couple's order,
The Waiter retreated to the kitchen.
He staked the paper on the counter
On which the word 'Murder' was written.

The Drought
The rain poured.
The river raged.
The water rose.
The dam broke.
The earth nourished.
The birds sang.
The crops flourished.
The people danced.
The Sun shone.
The clouds drank.
The river slowed.
The water sank.
The earth baked.
The birds parched.
The crops scorched.
The people prayed.
Yet,
The rain would not pour.
The river would not rage.
The water would not rise.
The broken dam had nothing to hold.
The river raged.
The water rose.
The dam broke.

Foolish Assumptions
What makes you think,
You could see the world through my eyes?
Is it because you are richer?
Is it because you wield more power?
What makes you think,
You could walk the world in my shoes?
Is it because you are wiser?
Is it because you fit in them better?
What makes you think,
You could experience the world in my skin?
Is it because you are superior?
Is it because you feel much deeper?
What makes you think,
You could move the world with my words?
Is it because you know better?
Is it because you have vocabulary that is wider?
What makes you think,
You could impress the world with my talents?
Is it because you hold exclusive rights?
Is it because you want to bathe in the limelight?
So what if you are richer?
So what if you wield more power?
Yet, you are no wiser.
Neither do my shoes fit you better.
You may act superior.
But, you feel no deeper than a puddle of water.
You claim to know better.
Yet, your lack of vocabulary makes me falter.
Bearing in mind that hogging the limelight,
Does not give you the exclusive rights,
To dictate what to do with my life.
Neither are these excuses,
For you to evaluate my worth.
You could see the world through my eyes?
Is it because you are richer?
Is it because you wield more power?
What makes you think,

Cephalgia
Like Horton and the Whos,
There is a Who-ville in me too.
Not on a dust-like planet as before,
But at the back of my head they wage war.
They beat their drums,
And did their dance.
I swear I could really feel,
Them playing with balls of steel.
Against my skull they do pound,
As though they are drilling the ground.
On my sensitive nerves they bounce,
I could only imagine them screaming 'UP!' and 'DOWN!'
It truly isn't much fun,
When you have more than one
Bloody Who in your head
Who made you wish you were dead!
There is a Who-ville in me too.
Not on a dust-like planet as before,
But at the back of my head they wage war.
They beat their drums,
And did their dance.
I swear I could really feel,

Metamorphosis
Carefree was I,
Exploring recklessly through the thick luscious foliage,
Drunk on tender young greens.
Gluttonous was I,
Gorging shamelessly on all that was offered,
Unaware of the increasing slowdown.
Imprisoned was I,
Hanging dangerously from the thin branch a dead weight,
Bound by finely woven silk strands.
Eager am I,
Stirring restlessly in my silken chambers,
Transformed through continual changes.
Omnipotent will I be,
Breaking and emerging confidently from within,
Where my new-found wings spread,
To carry me.
Exploring recklessly through the thick luscious foliage,
Drunk on tender young greens.
Gluttonous was I,
Gorging shamelessly on all that was offered,
Unaware of the increasing slowdown.
Imprisoned was I,

The Solitary Man
He went to war.
He was wounded.
He turned to her.
She lent a helping hand,
To The Solitary Man.
He shared his interests.
He charmed his way through.
He tried hard to make her happy.
She had fallen hopelessly,
For The Solitary Man.
He talked about riches and bevy of beauties.
He believed in living for the moment.
He showed her their sea of vast differences.
She realised she could not belong,
With The Solitary Man.
She ran.
She stumbled.
She fell into quicksand.
She had just been wounded,
By The Solitary Man.
He was wounded.
He turned to her.

To The Solitary Man.

Insomnia
When I close my eyes,
Millions of annoying what-ifs plague my mind.
What if I did not lie?
What if the feelings do not die?
What if I had been braver?
What if I did not waver?
What if I persisted?
Would You have resisted?
What if I pretended
That You do not matter?
Would things become
Less complicated?
Millions of annoying what-ifs plague my mind.
What if I did not lie?
What if the feelings do not die?
What if I had been braver?
What if I did not waver?
What if I persisted?
Would You have resisted?
What if I pretended
